No Fee Unless You Win
Unprecedented weather conditions across Texas have caused pipes to burst creating serious damage for hundreds of homeowners with more to come as temperatures heat up and the water comes back on. In addition to power outages, water shortages, and trying to keep their families warm, many Texans are now dealing water damage inside their homes. Which begs the question, will homeowner’s insurance cover damage from pipe bursts?
The short answer is, yes. Water damage caused by broken pipes is typically covered, but be sure to look at your specific insurance policy. Most homeowner insurance policies cover damage caused by sudden and unforeseen pipe bursts. (As opposed to water damage that occurs gradually over time from a leaky or rusty pipe which is not generally covered.) That’s good news for homeowners that have experienced damage due to frozen, busted pipes. Be sure to document your damage with photos and video before attempting to clean up and report your claim to your insurance company in writing immediately in addition to calling. And keep all receipts for cleaning supplies and any hotel or other additional living expenses (ALE).
