John A. Cowan

After graduating from The University of Texas School of Law, Mr. Cowan began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to Judge Wendell C. Radford in the Eastern District of Texas.  Following a brief stint with the Provost & Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont, Texas, he served as a law clerk for Judge Robert M. Parker on the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.  After completing his clerkship with Judge Parker, he returned to Provost Umphrey, where he worked until 2015.  While at Provost Umphrey, Mr. Cowan focused on motion practice and appeals.

Over his legal career, Mr. Cowan has worked on a wide variety of litigation and appellate matters, including wrongful death, product liability, insurance disputes, commercial litigation, and serious personal injury cases. He hasbeen heavily involved in numerous complex and class action cases, including the State of Texas’s multibillion dollar lawsuit against the tobacco industry.  Mr. Cowan is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
