Texas Windstorm Insurance Association settlements announced on Galveston homes completely destroyed by Hurricane Ike
$189 million TWIA settlement negotiated by the Mostyn Law Firm on Ike “slab”claims
Breaking news from the Mostyn Law Firm! After years of grueling work by the Mostyn Law Firm, Steve Mostyn led negotiations to a resolution for approximately 2,400 Galveston County property owners covered by Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) windstorm policies whose homes were completely destroyed by Hurricane Ike.
Years of hard work with intense depositions, thousands of pages of documents, long meetings with experts, numerous hearings, and endless emails and phone calls finally paid off with a proposed settlement of $189 million.
Our clients are excited with the results! When we gave Deborah Green the news, she started crying and screaming. She could barely breath she was so happy. She said, "I have been having anxiety since signing up about possibly losing out on their initial offer. I am so happy I stayed with the Mostyn Law Firm!"
All Mostyn Law Firm “slab” clients are part of this settlement. If you are not represented by the Mostyn Law Firm or any other law firm, you will be contacted by mail regarding the class settlement. You should call us today. We can help make sure you are protected in the class settlement or file an individual claim for you if necessary.
The total settlement of $189 million includes all claimants. This money will be allocated to all slab owners based on damages.
If approved, the settlement will compensate “slab” owners who are individually represented by us and any other lawyers. “Slab” owners not represented by counsel will be compensated through a class action lawsuit that was also settled. The individual settlement amounts paid to “slab” owners will be calculated the same way regardless of whether a “slab” owner is currently represented by an attorney or paid through the class action later.
All Mostyn Law Firm TWIA non-“slab” claims will continue to be prepared for mediation rounds. Currently TWIA has the capacity to resolve around 80 cases a month.
Steve Mostyn served as the liaison counsel to the Court for all Hurricane Ike cases filed in Galveston. He said: “‘Slab’ owners are real people whose homes were destroyed and have not had the money to rebuild. We are pleased that TWIA stepped up to the plate and resolved these cases so that these folks may now get on with their lives. ”
The presiding judge, Hon. Susan J. Criss in the 212th District Court of Galveston County, stated: “I appreciate all of the hard work by the plaintiffs' lawyers, the TWIA lawyers and the mediator, Todd Hunter, put into mediating these cases over a period of six full days. The Bolivar/Galveston community deserves closure and the opportunity to rebuild their homes and lives. ”
Thank you for trusting us to handle your case. Please help us spread the word on this exciting news!
